Suspension Upgrades for 2017 Grey Wolf 22RR

Updated 08/12/2026 | Published 08/06/2026

Question:

I am looking to upgrade suspension on my 2017 Grey Wolf 22RR. It has tandem 3500lbs axles with a 33 wheelbase. The 1.75 wide leaf springs 4-leaf stack are starting to flatten sitting about 25.75 now so I would like to replace those at the same time as upgrading the equalizers and switch to heavy duty shackles with wet bolts. I want to minimize increasing the ride height, so I am unsure if I should get the Road Armor or MORryde equalizers. I also dont know which heavy duty shackle kit I need to pair with the new leaves and equalizers.

Thanks for letting us help Michael. For the leaf springs, I'd recommend the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e54SR. This is a 25-1/4-inch double-eye spring that's a great fit for your 3,500-lb axle. If you haven't already planned on it, I'd strongly recommend replacing all four springs at the same time to keep the suspension balanced. You'll also want to replace the U-bolts, tie plates, and locknuts with # APUBR-1. Each kit services one axle, so you'll need two kits for your tandem-axle trailer.

For the equalizers, the key is to keep the replacement as close as possible to the dimensions of your current equalizers. The most important measurement is the horizontal center-to-center hole spacing. That measurement determines which upgraded equalizer will maintain your suspension geometry. For example, the MORryde CRE3000 # MR87ZR has a 6-1/2-inch horizontal hole spacing. Even among trailers with the same axle spacing, the factory equalizer dimensions can vary, so we always recommend matching the horizontal hole spacing as closely as possible. Ideally, you don't want more than about 1/2 inch of difference between your existing equalizer and the replacement.

For the upgraded suspension hardware, you'll also want to measure the center-to-center hole spacing of one of your existing shackle straps:

If the spacing is 2-1/4 inches the correct kit is # MR46ZR
If the spacing is 3-1/8 inches the correct kit is # MR76ZR

Both kits include heavy-duty shackle straps, bronze bushings, and wet bolts—everything needed to upgrade a tandem-axle suspension.

Is your 22RR a toy hauler? If so, what kind of gear do you usually load into it?

Thanks for the info Christopher. We haul dirt bikes in the toy hauler. My factory equalizers bottom holes are about 5 3/4” at the bottom bolts, so it looks like the MORryde won’t work. What are my options that could work?

@MichaelK The # LC279687 you were also looking at will be a good option for you.
