How Can I Determine If My 2023 Toyota Highlander LE Has The Factory Tow Package Or Not?

Question:

I have a 2023 Toyota Highlander LE. How can I determine if my vehicle has the factory ‘Tow Package’ installed? I find one 4-pin flat Curt trailer wiring harness for this vehicle on the site and it says it is for use with vehicles that have the tow package. My vehicle does have the factory mating connector the kit appears to require right behind the bumper.

The only way to really know if your 2023 Toyota Highlander LE has the factory tow package or not is to contact your local Toyota dealer with your VIN. They can tell you exactly what features your vehicle came with.

Vehicles with the factory tow package would have the connector right behind the bumper like you described. So based on that, it sounds like you do have the tow package. We still recommend having a dealership run your VIN to be sure. If you do have the tow package, we suggest using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK74FR.

2023 highlander. I looked behind the left side cargo area panel, and i have the 4 pin oem connector. But i don't believe the vehicle has the tow package. Is that a typical case of the oem using the same loom on both and i can use the tekonsha adapter and it'll work PnP, or is that plug like coded out and won't work ? I'd just prefer to use the oem style option if it works, rather than a universal tap in style.

@Jaron Typically vehicles without the tow package would not have the same OEM connector as the models with the tow package. It should be like a square 4-pin plug for the tow package. If you do not have the tow package you can still add a 7-way with part # TK57VR. This connects to the OEM 10-pin connector which is behind the rear drivers side trim panel.
