Question:

I have a nearly identical question sumbitted by Luke and answered by Gregory. same truck ~ 2003 f150 xlt, with the same harness mentioned by Luke that supports the original 4-pin outlet. I just bought the truck. The 4-pin outlet+bracket are missing, and the few outlet wires are taped. The previous owner also ran a separate hot wire from the battery to the rear which makes me question the capabilities of the current harness. Can I assume the harness from the cab will support the new cable with the 7-pin outlet, or do I need to unwrap it to verify? Thank you for your help.

You'll want to unwrap the wiring you found to see if those wires carry the same functions as everything on the Curt T-Connector # C55242 you're looking at.

Since it sounds like things have been chopped up a bit you might end up splicing your wiring together and if this is the case I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-10 and # DW05744-5. Be sure to match up the wires by function and not color.

Once you have all of that connected properly you can swap out the Curt 7-Way with the Hopkins # HM40975 to get that 4-Way and 7-Way combination. If you aren't concerned about that specific style then I recommend just getting the Hopkins # 37185 to start with because it has the wiring like the Curt as well as the 4-Way/7-Way combination of the Hopkins.
