Troubleshooting a Redarc Tow Pro Elite Brake Controller That's Short Circuiting

Updated 12/06/2023 | Published 12/05/2023

Question:

I have installed the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite EBRH-ACCV3-NA with the wire harness adapter for my 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. When I attach my trailer to my vehicle the control knob of the Redarc glows blue as it should. When I apply the breaks the color of the knob fades to purple then green which most closely resembles The LED Flashes an unusual colour sequence randomly whilst braking. According to the trouble shooting this means that I have a short circuit on the wire or fuse or the breaker is over loaded. Not sure how to fix this issues can you help please.

To fix a short circuit on your Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED39FR you'll need to look for any wires that appear to be broken or damaged as this is what would likely cause the wiring to short.

Then I recommend checking the 12-volt black power wire to see if anywhere from the controller to the battery the wire is frayed and touching any metal. It also wouldn't hurt checking to make sure the white ground wire is grounded correctly and not loosely to a rusted surface.

If all the wiring is good, then the only this left would be a problem with the brake controller. If you have a volt meter like # PT89ZR, then check the power wire voltage before and while activating the controller. If the incoming voltage spikes while in use, then there must be a short in controller and it will need to be replaced.
