Question:

I have an airbag question. My equipment: 1. 2019 GMC Denali HD 4WD SRW 3500 short bed 2. 2018 Grand Design Solitude 310GK 3. BandW Companion Slider I believe airbags will help reduce some of the side-to-side motion as well as the porpoising while travelling down the highway. I would like to know which airbags you recommend. And, if I decide to add an on-board compressor, what model would go with the recommended airbags AND can the compressor be added later not convinced I really need it on board. If I do elect to add the compressor, am I able to a hose into a coupler and air up my trailer and truck tires from the on-board compressor? Thank you!

That is a nice setup. You are absolutely right that adding an air bag kit will help to reduce the porpoising and side-to-side movement while you are towing. When you factor in your campers hitch weight, plus the weight of your companion slider you should be just under/around 2,800 lbs added to the bed of your truck. For that reason we do recommend going with a Heavy Duty air bag kit. For that I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709.

I prefer the Firestone kit over others for a few reasons. The air bags themselves are better constructed, more durable and can be inflated to a higher PSI than other bags. Also the custom brackets allow for a no-drill install.

As far as the compressor, it can easily be added on later if you choose to. If you install the Air bag kit only, you will have two standard air valves mounted on your bumper. You can use virtually any inflator that you want. If you plan to tow frequently, the on-board compressor is a very nice convenience. The compressor does not have to be brand specific to the air bags, and not all of them can be used to inflate tires.

We do offer a few compressors that can be used to fill truck tires. For that I recommend the Firestone Air Command II Xtreme Duty Compressor # F2549. This includes a tire inflator and 25' hose that can be mounted to a quick connect fitting. So it will put control of the air bags in the cab, and also allow you to inflate pretty much anything else that uses a standard air valve.
