Removing Stuck Bearing from Trailer Spindle
Published 09/25/2023 >
Question:
Hi, I have a 1988 Coleman pop up camper. It has the 4 bolt small hubs. One hub gets hot, I found out that the rear wheel bearing is seized on. How can I remove it? Thankyou

Take the wheel of the axle, remove the center cap/dust cover of the hub by lightly tapping it with a hammer to the sides and then using a slot screwdriver to pry off as needed. You'll see a nut with a tang washer or cotter pin behind the cover. Remove the washer/pin and then using channel locks or a large crescent wrench remove the castle nut that holds the hub on. Once thats off you'll be able to pull the hub off of the spindle.
If the bearing is froze to the spindle you are going to have to try and use a chisel and a hammer to apply force around the bearing to get if off the spindle. Or if it's really stubborn you would have to look into sourcing a bearing puller to get it off. We do not carry them but places like Harbor Freight does.
