Replacement Axle Recommendation for a 2022 R-Pod RP-153

Updated 09/19/2023 | Published 09/18/2023

Question:

Etrailer team. I have a 2022 rpod RP-153 model with failing junk 3500lb lippert torsion axle nearly 2 degrees negative camber and dealer says its normal / \ is not normal! Looking to go Timbren and can do the install. They really did spec this trailer poorly with a 3500# axle. Dry weight is 3159 with a 330lb tongue weight. Add water and puts it right at 3500. Add just a little cargo and right over spec. Not good. The factory axle is a lippert 774026 PN. No idea if the factory axle has built in lift or not but would like to gain about 2 total lift over where I am now and go a little more beefy. What would you recommend? I assume I will have to buy new brakes and hubs? Or, is there a model that you think will last that can use my current brakes and hubs with 2 lift?

I'm surprised they put a 3,500 lb axle on your 2022 R-Pod RP-153 so I definitely share your concerns about the safety of the whole thing. Generally they count the tongue weight as taking on some of the total weight of the trailer, and while this is true, you definitely have to have an axle that's closer to handling your GVWR of 4,730 lbs (when you add the unloaded weight and cargo capacity together).

Torsion axles installed at the factory won't have a lift so to add a 2" lift to your R-Pod I recommend the 5.2K Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # TASR5200S05. Just so you can compare to your current setup, the spindle for this Timbren will sit 5-1/2" below the frame in a resting position.

This this has a larger spindle you'll need to upgrade your brakes, hub/drum, and wheels as well if your current wheels don't have a 6-bolt pattern.
.
Here are the parts I recommend:

- Brake Kit # TRU96FR
- Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K (need 2 for an axle)
- Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20560
