Are Equal-i-zer WDH Heads Interchangeable With Differnet Capacity Springs

Published 09/14/2023

Question:

I need upgrade from 2” to 21/2” for new F350. My current Equalizer WD 2” shank rated at 10,000 pound, as is the ball on head assembly. How do I know what the head assembly itself is rated? I’d like to use current head, and be smart about cost, but safety too. Loaded travel trailer is under 12,000 pounds.

Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitches use different heads for each capacity so you would need to completely swap out the entire system in order to meet the GVWR of your trailer. If the system you have is all original then the head and spring bars would also be rated for 10,000lbs like the shank is. If you bought it used or swapped anything out then you would need to find the item number sticker on each part to determine what they are and their capacity.

To determine the best replacement for you trailer you'll want to load it up like you're ready to go camping and the measure the tongue weight with a scale # e99044. Once you have that number you can then pick out the appropriate system for both the tongue weight and GVWR.

If you're saying that your trailer weighs just under 12,000lbs then you'll want the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 12,000lbs GTW, 1,200lbs TW # EQ37120ET. This comes with a 2" shank so you would need to also purchase a new shank that can fit your 2-1/2" receiver tube opening and has enough drop or rise for your trailer to ride level. I've listed the available options below:

# EQ90-02-4700 7" Rise, 3" Drop
# EQ90-02-4800 8" Rise, 4" Drop
# EQ90-02-4900 10" Rise, 6" Drop
# EQ94FR 13" Rise, 9" Drop
# EQ34FR 15" Rise, 12" Drop
