Can the steel backing be used with these?

Since the Tandem Axle Jeep Style Trailer Fenders # HP42VR have an aluminum construction, I don't recommend using the Backing Plate # HP72FR with it because the backing plate is made of steel.

If you want this same style of fender but you want the option to add the backing plate then I recommend picking up the cold rolled steel version instead:

- Tandem Axle Jeep Style Trailer Fenders - Cold Rolled Steel # HP62VR

Then you can use the Backing Plate # HP72FR and Mounting Brackets # CE26098G-2 to complete your installation.

We do not offer any backing plates for the Tandem Axle Fender #HP62VR you were looking at, as for the trailer it was designed for it's not needed. If for your application you need a backing plate you'd need to have one cut yourself.
