Troubleshooting a Kwikee Single Step That Will Not Fully Extend/Retract & Just Goes Back and Forth

Question:
My Winnebago has a Lippert Kwikee Single Electric Step LC3726041. All of a sudden I had a problem that Ive found difficult to diagnose. Rather than the step coming in and staying in or going out and staying out depending on the screen door being open or closed and if the engine is running or not, the step will not stay all the way in OR all the way out. In fact is goes part way in and part way out over and over and over as if it cant decide which way it should go. It only stops when I manually pull the step fully open or push it fully closed. The step is currently unplugged and strapped closed. Before investing in a new step I was wondering if it could be the Magnetic Door Sensor? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

We have encountered this problem before and it turns out it was the gear on the bottom of the steps starting to wear out, causing the step to bounce on the way in or out and not fully extend/retract.
Since you have a single step, the correct gear would be the Replacement Gear for Lippert Single Step # LC301696. I do recommend checking that the gear is bad/worn out.
If the gear looks to be in decent shape, it could potentially be the controller. It sounds like the switch is working out because the steps are trying to open and close, indicating the circuit is being open and closed ok.
The correct replacement controller is the Replacement Control Unit for Kwikee Electric RV Steps # LC379146.
