Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement For A 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Towing A Horse Trailer

Question:

Looking to upgrade the suspension on a 2020 chevy silverado 1500 used to tow a horse trailer on weekends. Trying to compare the Timbren suspension enhancement springs and the Sumosprings. They look comparable in description, but one has a significantly higher load rating. Is there a reason behind that? What would be a recommendation between the two? Thank you.

Timbren's are rated for a much higher capacity than SumoSprings typically are, but the trade off is that they tend to be very stiff and offer poor ride quality. SumoSprings like the Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR offer a much softer progression so that it doesn't feel like you're hitting a pothole every time the suspension compresses. This specific set has a 1,500lb capacity, which should be equal to or greater than that of the tongue weight from your horse trailer so you should see a pretty significant difference immediately.

Timbrens do have their place with heavier duty applications but in your case where you're only using the truck on the weekends and won't always be towing SumoSprings are definitely the way to go to help with the load and still maintain ride quality.
