Which Gen-Y Offset Gooseneck Ball Fits 2024 Ram 2500 Short Bed with OEM Pucks

Question:

I recently purchased a 2024 RAM 2500 short bed. I am switching my trailer pin box to a Gen-Y Gooseneck 4.5k. How do I determine if I need a 4inch or 5inch extension ball? There is a big difference in cost between this 4inch one and Gen-Ys 5inch one with the rear support bar. Also, why does our item19308 5inch offset ball not work with Gen-Y? The ball size is the same as the others that do work with it. Glenn

Hey Glenn, for the 2024 Ram 2500 Gen-Y only makes the 5 inch offset hitch ball for the OEM pucks with the part # GY83XR. There isn't a 4 inch version available as well but even if there was the 5 inch offset would be better since you'd get just a little more turning clearance.

The # 19308 doesn't work because it was designed to fit a different gooseneck hitch so it wouldn't fit.

Can you explain to me how a ball that is the same size as the rest isn’t universally usable for various gooseneck pin boxes that require that size ball? This makes no sense to me. It’s like saying a flathead screwdriver isn’t compatable with a certain brand flathead screw.

@GlennA I think I misunderstood your question and for that I apologize. So the 19308 can be used with the Gen-Y coupler but I thought you were asking if it fit the Ram rail kit of your truck instead.
