Can A Slide Out Have Both An RV Awning And Slide Topper Awning On It

Question:

I have a 2021 Keystone Cougar 30rls 5th wheel. My dinette slide has an awning attached and I want to install a slide topper. Can the topper be installed on this unit?

Yes, it's very common for a slide out to also have an awning on it and still be able to install a slide topper, you'll just need to have enough space between the awning roller tube and slide topper roller tube. A slide topper like the Solera RV Slide-Out Awning # LCV000168109 will have brackets that attach to the wall of the slide out box, butted up to the top corners against the flange. The roller tube of the awning will simply need to be below the brackets for slide topper in order to ensure there's enough clearance. This could mean that you have to remove the awning from the wall and mount it a bit lower.

To choose the correct slide topper for your Cougar's slide out you'll need to measure from the outer edge of the flange across to the outer edge of the other flange to get the box width. From there you would want to ensure that you have at least 5-7" of clearance on both sides of the slide out so that you won't run into any clearance issues when you retract the slide. If you can provide me with the measurement of your slide out box and the how much clearance you have then I'd be happy to find the correct size for you.

I've attached one of my installation videos below where I'll walk you through the measuring process and installation process to give you a better idea of what this would entail.
