Question:
I want to use the K2R35D kit on a Demco tow dolly that uses and idler hub sealed unit with a rectangular bolt pattern, 2.38inch x 3 1/8. Does the backing plate of the K2R35D kit have that hole pattern, and if not would I be able to drill it out to accommodate that pattern?

Thank you for including a photo of your idler hubs. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit you referenced, part # K2R35D, requires a standard 4-bolt brake mounting flange in order to mount. The standard 4-bolt square mounting flange that this kit will fit, part # 4-35, is shown in the linked photo which includes measurements of the hole spacing. We do not recommend drilling your existing flanges; it is better to have a qualified welder replace them with the correct ones. Your existing hub appears to have a 5-on-4-1/2-inch wheel lug bolt pattern, which matches this Kodiak kit.
Installing a disc brake kit also requires a coupler/actuator with the 1500-psi pressure needed to operate disk brakes and the hydraulic lines to connect the coupler and brake assemblies. I have included a link to our page for disc brake actuator/couplers where you can select your preferred installation type (bolt-on or welded), weight capacity and type of reverse lockout, electric or manual. For example, you might use Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit for Single Torsion Axle Trailers, part # DM5424.
I have also included a link to an article that covers in detail the process for adding hydraulic disc brakes to a trailer that does not have them. This includes a chart of the typical components in a hub-and-rotor system.
You can use your existing axle size and bearing numbers to identify compatible disc brake components.
We also offer complete brake kits that include an actuator, hubs/rotors, calipers and brake lines. These can be selected by matching the axle size and inner and outer bearing numbers from your current hubs. The linked article will help you through the process.
