Time and miles catch up with every trailer. When you get corrosion or damage at the hub you want a replacement that matches your spindle. This galvanized idler hub fits 3,500-lb #84 spindles used with threaded Vortex setups. Bearings sold separately.
When a hub starts showing rust or damaged threads, assuming a replacement will work just because you can force it on can turn a simple job into a bigger problem. This hub is built specifically for 3,500-lb axles with #84 spindles that originally used a threaded Vortex oil bath hub. Standard hubs will not fit that spindle correctly. The threaded pilot holes give you a controlled way to remove the old hub and install the replacement without modifying the axle.
At the wheel side, the specs are just as exact. A 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern with 1/2"-20 hardware and 2" stud length supports thick wheel mounting pads or over-the-hub brake rotors while maintaining proper thread engagement and consistent torque. Inner and outer races are already installed, allowing you to proceed directly to bearing installation. Bearings, grease seal, and grease cap are sold separately.
All trailers take a beating. Road spray, heat cycles, loaded miles, and long stretches of storage wear on every exposed surface. Add repeated launches, wet storage, or seasonal road salt, and that wear accelerates fast. Painted steel eventually gives way under those conditions.
This hub uses galvanized steel to resist corrosion where it matters most, helping protect critical surfaces and maintain proper fit over time. The finish helps protect critical surfaces and maintain proper fit over time.
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 on 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look together at this DeeMaxx Galvanized Trailer Idler Hub for your 3,500 pound trailer axle. This marine grade trailer hub is going to be a great replacement for your Dexter Vortex hubs. This is built from galvanized steel, which makes it tough, durable, and highly resistant to corrosion. So this is gonna be perfect for trailers that see a lot of water, like your boat or snowmobile trailers. One handy feature is that these wheel bolts are extra long, so they're gonna easily fit set ups with an over the hub brake rotor or custom wheels that have a thicker mounting surface.
They're a half an inch in diameter and they're gonna be about two inches long with a half an inch by 20 bolt size. Now the races are already pressed in and installed. That's gonna save you time during setup, but you will need to pick up the bearings, the grease seal, and the grease cap. Those are all sold separately from this. So on your screen, I am listing the bearing and seal information there for you.
We do have all of those items available here at etrailer. Take a look at the related products tab on this product page and you should be able to find just about everything that you need to complete this if you're in need of those items, if you don't already have them. In terms of fitment, this is again, designed for your 3,500 pound trailer axles with the number 84 spindle. And this has a five on four and a half inch bolt pattern, as you can see, and each hub individual are gonna to support 1,750 pounds. So if you have one of these on each side of your trailer, that's where you get your 3,500 pound axle capacity.
If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this or any of the other items that we carry here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.
