Does 7-Pin Adapter For Go Power Portable Solar Kit Require Solar Controller

Updated 10/04/2024 | Published 02/23/2023

Question:

I have a small tear trailer - a 2021 NuCamp Tab 320s. Im thinking about buying a portable solar panel to supplement the 100w panel on the trailer. If I use the 7-Pin Trailer Adapter to connect the portable panel to my trailer, does the solar panel need to have a solar charge controller? Or is the solar charge controller unnecessary because the 7-pin is connected to the converter which then charges the battery? Im still learning about all this, so wanted to be sure. Thanks for your help!

You will still need a solar controller when using the 7-Pin Trailer Adapter for Go Power Portable Solar Kits # 34270357.

So it won't replace a solar controller it will actually plug right into it (via your 7-way) when using a portable solar panel like the Go Power Portable Solar Panel with Digital Solar Controller - 130 Watt Solar Panel # 34282730 or 200 Watt Solar Panel # 34282610.

Hi Kyle, I purchased the 7 pin trailer adapter for solar charging from E trailer. I plan on using it with a Rockpals 100 watt portable panel that uses MC4 connectors. What charge controller do you guys recommend to that will connect the panel (MC4) to the 7 pin trailer adapter with the Anderson connector? Thanks so much in advance. Maria

@Maria So from what I saw the Rockpals has a controller built into it, meaning one is not needed separately. You will want to verify that, but if you do happen to need a separate controller you can use the Redarc PWM Solar Charge Controller - 10 Amp # RED93VR with Redarc Remote Monitor for Solar Systems # RED83VR (note this is not compatible with lithium batteries).

@KyleS thanks Kyle. My panels are the lightweight nylon portable kind. Not sure there’s a controller but I’ll take a closer look ??.
