Question:
There is 12 volt outlet on the right hand side of the trunk area. Is there any way I can pull power from there instead of running all the way up to the battery? Would avoid having the wire so close to suspension components and out in the salty brine.

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118668 which is a fit for a 2013 Volkswagen Touareg requires a power wire to be run from the converter at the rear to the battery in the engine bay per the instructions. This is the only way to ensure the circuit is rated appropriately for the power demands of the trailer lights. We get asked this often about pulling power from somewhere at the rear of the vehicle but unfortunately, we simply cannot recommend this due to the reason above.
In order to complete your towing setup you'll need a few other items such as a trailer hitch and ball mount/hitch ball, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75950 and Curt Towing Starter Kit part # C45534.
