Usually the main reason your Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-35L-SA would get hot is due to the brakes being adjusted improperly.
You can use the Brake Adjustment Spoon for Drum Brakes # W80630 to adjust the left side to see if it corrects the issue.
If your brakes are adjusted properly, then it may be a wiring issue. I recommend checking out the brake magnets as well as the actual wiring for breaks or frays.
If there are any brakes or frays in the wiring that may be causing a short, which could be causing your brakes to get too hot; in this case you are going to need to replace as needed and check again to see if the issue persists.
If you're still having issues after checking these things, feel free to come back and we can continue to troubleshoot.
I have also included a couple of FAQ's for you to check out as well.
