Why Does Trailer Wiring for 2022 Ford Bronco Require Running Wire up to Vehicle Battery
Published 09/12/2022 >
Question:
Why do all wiring kits specify that a hot wire is run from the battery to the wiring assembly? I dont remember running a hot wire in the past, though it has been years since I needed to wire a vehicle, since they all have been factory wired. My Bronco will have the accessory switches. Can I pull power from one of them? Is there a certain amount of power / amps needed from that source for proper trailer light function? Thanks for clearing this up.

Modern trailer wiring kits like the part # TK33VR which fits your 2022 Ford Bronco if it does not have LED taillights or the part # TK99VR if you do have them do require running a power wire up to the battery to draw power from for the trailer's taillights. This is due to vehicles now having a much more delicate wiring system and also because they've found that these kits prevent issues on the tow vehicle and trailer wiring. In the event of a short the Bronco's wiring isn't going to end up damaged since it's all bypassed so while more work does provide protection and peace of mind.
