I have a 2008 Mini Cooper base with automatic transmission. I been looking for most compatible tow dolly to use. What gear does car need to be in, and does the steering wheel need to locked in any way?

When towing your 2008 Mini Cooper on a tow dolly you will be able to place the transmission in park when you have it secured to the trailer. Since your steering wheel locks when you are in park with the ignition turned off you will not need a Steering Wheel Lock # WICL303RED as other cars require.
The Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly # DM9713093 or Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly # DM9713045 are both great options for towing you Mini. The SS folds up much smaller to a 67" length which is best for storing in a garage or if you have limited parking area. The X is 147" long and will not fold up for storage.
