Question:
I am looking to replace an axle on a galvanized boat trailer. Approx capacity 2,000 to 2,200 pounds. The boat is about 1400 pounds. The measurement between the hub faces is 69.25 inches and the springs are spaced at 59.25 inches. I don’t see anything that quite matches up to this dimensions. Is there an axle you would recommend as a substitute? It’s used to launch in salt water so galvanized would be preferred. I believe the manufacturer was Yarborough, industries, which I believe is long out of business.

While we have an option for 2,000 lb or 2,200 lb suspension, like you mentioned there is not a straight axle with the measurements you have. What you can do though is use an the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System, which are simply bolted or welded so you do not have to worry about finding an axle that meets any specific measurements. There are 2,000 lb and 2,200 lb systems:
- 2,000 lbs: Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR2000S02
- 2,200 lbs: Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS01
These are not galvanized so you would want to be sure to hose them down after salt water use. They do offer benefits though, such as not having to find an axle of any exact length, and they give you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle. The reason for that is the Timbrens aren't connected by an axle beam, so they work independently, meaning if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. The system also has progressive springs which are shock absorbing for a smoother ride.
Then for a hub that fits the spindles of both systems, there is a galvanized option, the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-35-G-EZ-K.
