Question:
I am looking at several roof-rack products for side-loading and securely transporting a Wilderness Systems Recon 120 fishing kayak on a Toyota 2011 RAV4, which came with pre-installed rack and cross bars. The kayak in question weighs 95 lbs, 38-inches in width. and 12.2-inches long. The 2011 Toyota RAV4 has a roof rack capacity of 102 lbs. Will the combination of the Malone Telos XL, paired with the etrailer universal kayak carrier, and the Universal Roof Rack Adapter Kit for Malone Telos XL Load Assist, allow me to secure this wide kayak to the roof of my 2011 RAV4?

I do have a solution for you, but it will require you to get an aftermarket roof rack for your 2011 Toyota RAV4. Your vehicle has a factory roof rack weight limit of 102 lbs. If your kayak weighs 95 lbs, your kayak carrier can not weigh more than 7 lbs. This is not an option. I do have a roof rack to fit your vehicle that will allow you to carry your kayak. It will consist of the following items:
Yakima CoreBar Crossbars # Y00421
TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y33TR
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores # Y07204
You will be able to remove your factory crossbars. This roof rack has a weight limit of 165 lbs. Once this rack is on your vehicle you will be able to use the following items together:
etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount, part # e98878
Telos XL Load Assist for Malone Kayak Carriers - Side Loading, part # MPG351XL
Universal Roof Rack Adapter Kit for Malone Telos XL Load Assist, part # MAL95VR
I have included product description links and video review links below.
