Features to know about

Built for Confident Long-Haul Towing: Heavy-Duty, Bolt-On Base Plate

When you’re pulling thousands of miles behind a motorhome, you want a setup that feels rock solid. This Blue Ox base plate bolts straight to the chassis—no welding required—and spreads towing force evenly to help prevent stress on the suspension. The durable steel construction with a rust-resistant powder coat keeps everything rigid and trustworthy over the long run. Owners have seen how tough it is, even saying the front end felt stronger than stock after install.

Keeps Things Clean When You’re Not Towing: Hidden Design with Removable Arms

If you like your vehicle to look normal when it’s off the hitch, this kit makes that happen. The completely hidden design leaves no bulky brackets sticking out once the arms are removed. Each arm pops out with a quick twist and pull of the locking pin, and you can plug the receivers with the included covers to keep dirt and debris out. No shin-banging hardware in sight—just a clean, factory-style finish until it’s time to tow again.

Quick Hook-Up Every Time: Twist-Lock, Pin-Secure Arms

Connecting is straightforward and repeatable. The removable draw bars slide into the receivers, twist to lock in place, and secure with a single pin. It’s a simple system that makes getting ready fast whether you’re doing it solo or in tight spaces. When it’s time to unhook, just pull the pin, twist back, and stow the arms until next use.

Ready for Your Existing Gear: Broad Tow Bar Compatibility

This base plate works directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a secure link between your motorhome and towed vehicle. It also adapts for use with Roadmaster tow bars using adapter RM-031 or RM-031-5, and with Demco tow bars using adapter DM9523041 (all sold separately). Integrated mounting points make it easy to attach an electrical connector plug bracket so your lighting stays organized up front.

DIY-Friendly Setup: Straightforward Installation with Included Hardware

For anyone who likes wrenching on their own rig, this kit is approachable. It bolts securely to existing chassis points using the supplied mounting hardware—no welding needed. The design aims for a solid fit while minimizing permanent changes, making it a project that’s satisfying to finish and dependable once done. Specs include 24" distance between brackets, 13-1/2" bracket height, and a 3-year warranty backing it all up.

The safety Cable installation left a little to be desired. I'm not sure if I installed it as designed. The cables we're really long enough to go aroiund the frame rails on our Jeep, under the Radiator mount, Aluminum Frame, I was only able to go around the Raditor mount on both sides. Didn't really seam like it was the right way, but I suspect it's only for if something comes loose that there isn't a catastrophic breakaway.

After installing over 500 baseplates on various vehicles, this one was probably the toughest one . It had the off road package on it . But it fit great after I had to remove a lot that had been bolted up for 27yrs.

by:

Tried to install this baseplate. It was a challenge to say the least. It did not fit the frame of my Jeep YJ without making modifications to the mounting plates on the driver side. I had to use a cut off wheel and remove 3/16 of an inch from the driver side spacer (which is too long. See pictures) in order to get it to clear the frame. Also, instructions say to drill an additional 1/2 inch hole in the frame for a third mounting bolt. BUT....the internal frame construction doesn't allow the nut on a stick to pass under the existing reinforcements for the bolts that mount the steering gear to the frame. Nut is way too thick to pass under the internal tubing in the frame from manufacturer (AMC).

This was instilled on a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 truck. I watched your video online with this exact model truck and the words I remember most was “and we did not have to do any trimming”. Well my truck was certainly different than what was on video. Guess it’s because it’s a late build 2024 (end of September 2024) and the grill system was maybe what would appear on the 2025 models? There was lots of trimming involved. I also will tell you the mounting holes both for the frame and the bumper back plate did not line up and required some modifications to fit. I would like to say this job is not for the faint of heart. I luckily have a mechanical/machinist background so was able to get the job done. Have not tested it yet but will be soon. Good luck to those of you who are planning on installing it yourself. Just remember it can be done. Just take your time.

The Blue Ox base plate for my 2015 Kia Soul is well manufactured and, with a little bit of mechanical skill, easy to install. It fit perfectly without issues. Brad from etrailer provides a step-by-step installation video that is outstanding and nicely guides through the process from beginning to end. I highly recommend this Blue Ox base plate from etrailer.

by:

Well the blue ox base plate actually fits my turbo engine. The Curt didn't fit as advertised.

by:

Super high quality baseplate for towing by Blue Ox. Instructions, videos, shipping (one day!) and overall experience was awesome. A bit pricey but their quality and the additional support by E Trailer cannot be beat! BTW (E Trailer) the baseplate fits three different Jeep configurations but did not call out the Recon package. After looking at other brands which showed there's to fit the 3 variations AND the Recon, I figured it would fit and it DID. You should definitely upgrade to include the Recon Edition.

lways great to shop at etrailer, especially the tech experts. Royce did an awesome job with our order. Everything fit perfectly and the help video provided the guidance I needed.

We installed the baseplate on our 2023 Encore GX AWD as well as the light harness and breakaway switch. A couple of items were incorrect but Royce corrected the issues with no problems.

Thanks again etrailer!

2019 Ford Ranger baseplate worked and fitted fine for me. 73 yrs old took me a couple hours but took many breaks. Younger could do it less than hour I'm sure.
Also works fine with my Blue Ox tow bar.

Worked great easy to install

by:

Easy to install, no welding. However as noted by previous reviews, the mounting plate for drivers side has one mounting hole that does not line up and requires modification.

by:

It took 12 hours to install because the elongated hole on the drivers side bracket was not drilled correctly for alignment. It looks good now that it is complete. One other thing when pulling back trim on fenders be careful not to pull back past bolt or the plastic clips break off.

by:

Quality product, but installer will need to download or view the color PDF instruction file that etrailer provides (can also be found at blueox) because the product comes with a black & white copy of the pdf that’s not useful. Plus, the pdf can be zoomed for a better view.

I'm a 'Retired' Engineer, but as anyone who knows an Engineer, they NEVER really 'Retire', they just end up breaking down! I've installed Blue Ox base plates on three different vehicle over the past 11 years; a 2016 Ford Focus Titanium, a 2019 Ford Explorer Sport, and most recently a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS AWD. OK, for just one person, this is NOT a four hour job! I built cribbing blocks just for this reason, 11 years ago, and boy have they paid off! Drive up on the blocks, put the vehicle in PARK, with the Emergency Brake ON, and go to work. Usually takes about a day and a half, counting all the wiring that needs to be done. KNOW THIS FIRST: There is no such thing as a base plate fitment that is perfect, you've got to move this thing thisaway, or hammer this thing thataway to get it to fit. Being an Engineer helps! But, these BLUE OX base plate kits are fantastic. We sold our Focus to get the Trailblazer AWD. A couple of weeks after the sale, someone ran a STOP Sign and the Focus hit it. We found out the Focus was able to drive away, and the other vehicle was totalled. I believe the Blue Ox baseplate made the front end MUCH stronger than factory, and hence the results. God Help anyone that our Blue Ox-equipped Explorer or Trailblazer hits!!!!

Not only does this baseplate allow us to tow the vehicles behind our motorhome, but it give us peace of mind when were driving them, knowing that we are more protected from front collisions with that massive baseplate attached!

@Spock Do you mind if I call you Captain, Spock? Thank you for providing such an awesome review packed with helpful information! It’s incredibly valuable, not just for customers considering this base plate, but also for those planning to tackle the installation themselves. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. And what an amazing story about the base plate saving your Focus, maybe Blue Ox should consider renaming themselves Guardian Angel! It sounds like you’ve had all kinds of flat towing adventures. What’s been your all-time favorite? Where did the journey take you?
