When it comes to installing a brake controller on your 2009 Toyota Sienna you would first need to make the 4 flat connector into a 7 pin connecter. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 will plug into the existing 4-way trailer connector on the vehicle. There will be three extra wires included:
Black - 12 Volt Hot Lead
Blue - Electric Brakes
White - Ground
Using the # ETBC7 will give you both access to a 4 flat and a 7 round pin connector. When it comes to choosing the brake controller The Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK90160 can run up to 3 axles. It has the automatic-leveling ability which has an internal sensor that detects deceleration even if the controller is not mounted flat.
I would recommend changing out the 7 pin adapter on the trailer to The Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector - 11 foot Long # HM20048 so everything will work together.
I attached an installation video link below.
