2014 Honda CR-V Battery Dies While Flat Towing Vehicle

Published 04/21/2022

Question:

Hi, I have a 2014 CRV that I tow behind a 2015 Tiffin Phaeton which is a diesel pusher. I have a Invisibrake installed in the Honda. Recently having difficulty with the Honda battery dying. I was told to put a new brake charger wire as well as a fusemaster on the car. My question is.. does the fact that my motorhome is a diesel matter in this case or do I need to use somethings different in the tow car because my motorhome is a diesel?

The fact that your motorhome has a Diesel engine won't have any bearing on the parts you need to correct the problem you're experiencing.

In order to flat tow your CR-V without discharging the battery, you'll need to remove the 7.5A fuse located where shown in the provided diagram. Some editions of the owner's manual show the wrong fuse.

I'd recommend using a Roadmaster Fuse Master, part # RM76511 which will allow you to bypass the fuse without needing to remove it each time you flat tow. I'd also consider installing a charge line kit like # RM-156-25 which will provide a maintenance charge to the battery from the motorhome while you're towing.

I've linked to a video showing how the Fuse Master and Charge Line Kit are installed on a 2014 Honda CR-V.
