What Spindle Works with the Kodiak Disk Brake Assembly # K1HR35D?

Updated 03/14/2022 | Published 03/13/2022

Question:

I see that you listed 2 different diameter spindles. That’s where my confusion came in. Would it be the 2” or the 1 3/4” ? The bearing isn’t going to fit both. To me it seems like the 1 3/4 based off the bearing size?

For the Kodiak Disc Brake Assembly - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs # K1HR35D, you need a Dexter #84 Spindle like the #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 2" Diameter # TRU24FR or the #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Trailer Axle - 1-3/4" Diameter # TRU74FR.

It is important to note that the spindle must be welded perfectly square onto the axle. If the spindle is even slightly lopsided, you will not have an even wheel surface for the trailer. We here at etrailer strongly recommend reaching out to a local axle shop to have a professional installation of the spindles.

The 2" and the 1-3/4" inch diameter in the title of the #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 2" Diameter # TRU24FR and the #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Trailer Axle - 1-3/4" Diameter # TRU74FR simply refer to the diameter of the actual part of the spindle that attaches to the axle. These measurements do not have anything to do with the bearing sizes. The bearings will stay the same for both of these parts. Both of these spindles use the L68149 inner bearing and L44649 outer bearing, which are the bearings included in the Kodiak Brake Assembly # K1HR35D. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows the different parts of a spindle and the parts that attach at each point. The part labeled "A" corresponds to the diameter width of the part that attaches to the axle. The part labeled "C" is the inner bearing and the part "D" is the outer bearing.
