Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For a 2014 Buick Enclave With Factory Tow Package
Updated 03/02/2022 | Published 02/28/2022 >
Question:
I have a 2014 Buick Enclave with Towing Package of up to 4500 lbs maximum tow weight and a 600 lb rated Class III hitch already installed. I do not have a hitch ball or weight distribution hitch yet, so am looking. Doing some research, I am looking into buying a small trailer with about 3700 lb GVWR to not exceed tow capacity, axle weights, car GCVWR and tongue weights. This has narrowed down to Lance 1475, Lance 1575, T@b 400, and possibly Intech Sol Horizon and Flagstaff E-Pro 19FBS the latter two at the high end of weight. The question I have is I would need to but a hitch first before the trailer and am looking at a weight distribution hitch of up to 600 lb. OR, with a trailer under 3700 lb GVWR, is a weight distribution hitch necessary. What hitch is recommended? There are a number of weight distribution hitches - Clue Ox, Curt, Equalizer Buick Enclave is 9700 lb GCWR, GVWR 6459, max cargo 1342, curb wt 4922. Sol Horizon is first choice, but with GVWR of 4000 dry wt 3350 and dry tongue wt of 495, I think it exceeds the capacity.

I highly recommend using a weight distribution system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET when you tow a camper with your 2014 Buick Enclave. This particular system is rated for tongue weights of 200-600lbs with a maximum trailer weight of 6,000lbs. The weight distribution is important as you will be able to level your Enclave which will ensure that your steering and braking in your Enclave is not diminished when towing. Equally important this hitch will provide you with sway control to keep your camper tracking straight on the highway. Strong winds and turbulence caused by some semi trucks will cause the camper to sway behind you without a sway control device.
