How Far Below the Roof Will MaxxFan Dome Plus Roof Vent Set

On the MaxxFan Dome Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan - LED Light - 6 Diameter - Manual Lift - White. Does this let any light in? Does it vent passively if left open? Whats the minimum retracted depth inside Im considering it for an unfinished cargo trailer

Once closed, the MaxxFan Dome Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, # MA00-03810W does not let light in. You can open the vent and not turn on the fan. This fan fits roofs that are 1" to 6" thick, so you would need to build up the roof of your trailer where the vent installs if you do not have at least 1 inch of thickness. When closed, this will have a little more than 3 inches into the trailer. Please note the attached image.
