Question:
with this part# al60769 can I use it with the factory air shocks
asked by: Bill C
Expert Reply:
According to Air Lift, the # AL60769 is not compatible with vehicles equipped with the OEM auto-leveling suspension, i.e, factory air shocks and would therefore not work on your Avalanche.
A Timbren system, like part # TGMRYS4 would be compatible with the auto-level system. The advantage of a Timbren system is that is is passive, and will not come into play unless the bed of your Avalanche is loaded. As more weight is added, the springs become stronger and more resistant. Keep in mind that no suspension enhancement product will increase the load bearing capacity of your vehicle.
I am curious about why you are needing additional suspension enhancement. If you are trying to counteract rear end sag caused by hitching a trailer, a weight distribution system would be a much better choice. A W/D system would use leverage provided by spring bars to transfer a portion of the trailer tongue weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle. This helps level the ride height between the front and rear axles which will improve steering and braking performance while towing. If this is the situation, I would be happy to recommend a system for you if you would care to reply withe the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer as well as the weight of anything stored in the truck bed behind the rear axle while towing.
I have linked you to some FAQ articles about suspension enhancement, weight distribution and how to determine the tongue weight of your trailer.
