Thank you, can I use an extension with a weight distribution hitch? cant open tailgate with trailer attached.

In certain cases, the vehicle manufacturer will require or recommend the use of a weight distribution system for trailers over a certain weight. The general rule we use, if the weight of the trailer is over half the weight of the vehicle then you will see benefits from a weight distribution system. That said, even if you don't fall into either of the above categories you can still use one and will see benefits from this. I recommend a unit with sway control built-in, the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37060ET is one of the top options on the market that comes with everything you need.

It's not permitted to use an extension no, but you can use a longer shank which is what others do. I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 which offers up to 4" of drop. You'd then only need the system without shank, part # EQ37061ET.
