What is Weight Rating and Hitch Class of Curt # 13932
Published 01/10/2022 >
Question:
Hello, I am looking to purchase the Curt 13932 hitch to install behind a roll pan on my 2011 silverado. However, I am concerned because the weight rating is lower than their traditional under bumper hitch for my truck. This hitch only shows 800lb tongue weight and 8,000lb trailering capacity with a weight distribution hitch whereas the traditional under bumper hitch for my truck shows 1,000lb tongue weight and 10,000lb trailering capacity with a weight distribution hitch. Why is this hitch still shows to be a class 3 rated at less weight than the tradition hitch? Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Expert Reply:
The Curt hitch part # 13932 is a Class III hitch that has the towing capacity of 5,000 lb and 500 lb tongue weight. While this isn't on the higher end of the Class III hitch spectrum it is high enough to be a Class III hitch. These hitches are rated independently of the vehicle which is why they often times don't match the vehicle's capacities exactly.
