Question:
The instructions say that the controller needs to be horizontal and pointed in the direction of travel. Yet is also says Since it can level itself automatically you can have it mounted at any vertical angle.

Great question!
Basically you just need to make sure that the Prodigy P2 # 90885 is mounted so that it's level to the ground and in-line with the direction of travel (see first mounting image). As long as you don't have the controller turned so that it's pointing more towards the driver or passenger side of the vehicle you can then mount it anywhere in that 360-degree rotational range.
