Question:

Dear Etrailer Representative: I have a 1960 single axle Airstream Safari for which I need 2 new tires. A tire company here sold me I can return them 2 Taskmaster Contender ST205/90D15 tires, which seem too small to me. They measure about: UNMOUNTED OD 28 3/4, ID 15 1/4inch with 5 1/4inch wide tread. The original Cooper Super Road-Master Nylon 7.00-15LT Tube Type Load Range D 8 Ply Rating Tread 6 Plies Nylon Cord measures approximately: MOUNTED OD 29 1/2inch with 6inch wide tread body bulges another 2 1/2inch for total width of of 8 1/2 On a Rim with OD 16 1/2inch with 7inch width as best as I can measure. Legible numbers printed on rim/wheel are 15 x 6 2160 lbs Max 60 What is the best/right tire I need? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sincerely,

Expert Reply:

The reason you tire looks small is because it isn't mounted to the wheel and inflated. The closest comparable match to your 7.00-15LT tires is going to be a 225/75R15 like the Castle Rock ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # 274-000029. It's going to an inch shorter in overall diameter.
