Troubleshooting Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM62VR

Question:
Hello, When I tow my boat and slow down, my actuator slams forward. I don’t know if I have brake assist on my 2008 Escalade. Is it normal for that to happen if the brake assist is not hooked up on my truck. Ty.

I spoke to my contact at Demco and he told that the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM62VR should not slam forward when you slow down. He said this brake actuator is inertia based, meaning as you start to apply the brakes it will begin to slowly activate your trailer's brakes. It should not be where the brake actuator slams forward as you say.
There are a couple of things he said that could be causing the problem. The first thing he said could be the issue are the bolts that hold the inner slide tube in place. Those bolts should not be adjusted, the manufacturer sends these out set where they should be. He said that if they are too tight or too loose that could make the brakes activate off and on constantly. The bolts should be set at 45 ft-lbs if you can check that.
He also said that it is possible that the dampener shock could be bad and not functioning properly, that could cause the actuator to slam forward.
If both of these prove to be good, let me know and we will continue to troubleshoot the problem.
