Can I Mount My Surface604 Rook to the Kuat NV 2.0 Backwards to Avoid the Fenders?

Question:
I’m wondering if the rack can be loaded “backwards”, so that the hold down arm is holding the spot where a Surface604 Rook’s rear basket is welded to the frame. That bike has a front fender so it won’t be “good” loading the normal way with the front tire in the wheel stop/basket.

I have a solution for you. I went ahead and brought the issue to my contact at Thule, and he confirmed that he does not recommend mounting your Surface604 Rook backwards on the Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22G so that the rear tire is on the cradle. Also, my contact did confirm that he does not recommend attaching the ratcheting hooks to the basket because it could cause damage if your vehicle experiences added torque or goes over bumps. For this same reason, we do not recommend using a wheel-mount bike rack with a bike with fenders.
With that being said, a great option for your Surface604 Rook is the Saris Freedom # SA4412B. The great thing about the Freedom is that the frame-mount attachment cradles adjust independently on the mast so that it will fit your bike without the need of a bike frame adapter bar. In addition, it also comes the same 60-pound per bike weight capacity as the Kuat NV 2.0.
If you need a hitch receiver that is compatible with the Saris Freedom, I would be happy to suggest a recommendation if you provide me the year/make/model of your vehicle.
