Can the Kuat Swing Away Hitch PVP20B Be Used to Carry a Spare Tire Carrier?
Updated 08/30/2021 | Published 08/28/2021 >
Question:
I know this is for bikes and bike racks but Im looking for a more budget friendly option for a 90° swing away tire carrier on my 19 Outback. Would this part support a standard hitch mount tire carrier with a 65R17 BF Goodrich Ko2 on a steel wheel? Thanks for answering an off topic question.

The Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender # PVP20B can be used with accessories other than bike racks as well. This will be a very good option to swing your hitch mounted tire carrier away when you need access to the back of your vehicle.
However, I do need to mention that using this will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50%. Odds are you will be well within this lower capacity, but it is something to double check, just to make sure.
