Question:

I have 1 3/4 wide 25 1/4 eye to eye 2700 lb 5 leaf springs . I have 5inch between the top of the spring to frame. The axle is a 3inch tube and 12 inch brakes with 225 75 15 tires. Axle on top will leave about 1 1/2inch of potential clearance. Will that provide enough clearance for spring deflection?

I have a couple suggestions as that 1-1/2" is not enough clearance for the spring deflection. Typically I like to see at least 5" to 6" of clearance in between the frame and axle or leaf spring.

First is the one I recommend as it is the easiest to install. The Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 will allow you to place the axle under the springs which will effectively raise your suspension the 3" of your axle diameter and the height of your leaf springs. If you have a tandem axle you will need two kits.

The other option is to install taller spring hangers. This is a much more difficult task as you will have to have your hangers cut off and the new hangers welded back on in their place. We have a Hanger # E4139 that is 4-1/4" tall from the bottom of the frame to the center of the leaf spring bolt. Without knowing how tall your current hangers are I can not say with certainty that these will raise your suspension far enough. If you would like to have more information about moving in this direction please send me the measurements for your current hangers.
