What is the Interior Width of the Yakima MegaWarrior Roof Mount Cargo Basket

Question:

Im looking to mount my full size spare 31 in a Megawarrior gear basket. I already have a couple of Yakima bike racks on an older crossbar, circa 2000. My question revolves around the remaining space in the basket to mount accessories. I cant seem to find the internal dimensions anywhere. Will I be able to mount both my bike racks to the basket with the tire? Additionally, I typically tie my kayak directly to the crossbar. It looks like Im going to need a kayak mount with the basket. Will that fit with the tire mounted? Thanks

On the Yakima MegaWarrior, # Y07080, the overall width is 48 inches. The larger tubing on the basket is 1-1/8 inches in diameter so the internal width would be 48 - 2-1/2 inches to equal 45-1/2 inches. That would leave 14-1/2 inches of width after your 31 inch spare is in the basket. This would be enough width for one bike but probably not 2 without facing the bikes in opposite directions.

Another issue is the weight of a basket, spare tire and wheel, and 2 bikes. You will need to make sure the vehicle roof can handle the weight. This information may be in the owners manual or by contacting the dealer manufacturer.
