Question:

Setting head behind axle on short bed. I have a 2021 chevy 2500 hd with a standard box. If I put the hitch head back 3 inches behind the axle. By flipping the side braces around. Will I notice any handely difference compared to it being in the forward position ? Or are both position the same as far as ride and safety quality

With the weight being transferred further back, it is possible you will notice a slight difference in handling with the pivot arms flipped and furthest from the cab with the fixed Companion for a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 short bed, which is the following part:

I have cut out part of the instructions (which are also linked below) and the fact is, with this hitch and a short bed, it is going to sit behind the rear axle, either 3-1/2 inches or 1-1/2 inches. While this is safe to do, having the hitch further back will mean less weight on the front axle, and your truck riding a little higher nose up than it would otherwise, which can affect steering and handling.

No matter which position you put the Companion # BWRVK3710 in, because it does sit behind the rear axle, it would be a good idea to add air bags to help level out your 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500, the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57341.
