Will Adding Leaf Springs with More Leaves Raise the Trailer
Updated 06/27/2024 | Published 07/14/2021 >
Question:
I have a trailer for my Tracker V175 Combo that came with single leaf springs that are a common issue among owners and would like to upgrade to a beefier 2-4 leaf spring. My concern is i just barely fit the boat and trailer into the garage without hitting the window on the door. Will a new larger leaf spring increase the overall height of the trailer and in turn make it so my boat wont fit in my garage?

If the leaf springs are located under the axle then adding leaves will lower the trailer whereas if they are mounted on top of the axle then adding leaves will raise the trailer. That said, the amount of rise/drop is very minimal (most leaves are 3/8") so there should not be any issues. In order to find the correct replacement leaf springs you'll need to know their capacity, type, and unloaded length. The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles part # e27SR is a double eye spring, for 4k axles, that measures 26" long unloaded.
I have attached our entire spring selection below.

Actually he won't be able to use a 6 leaf. That's too long. He needs a 25 1/4 which would be a 3 leaf, 4 leaf, HD 4 leaf or a 5 leaf. Thos4 are all 25 1/4". Not sure if he had a 2k or 3.5k axle, but if it's a 2k I'd recommend going up to a 3.5k to go with that suspension.
