Will the part #853-7489 allow me to attach the above hitching post to a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT? I gather that I will need to purchase part number 853-5787-02 to the adapter then into the receiver and attach the rack as normal. Is this correct? Thanks

Since you have a Thule Hitching Post bike rack the correct 2 inch hitch adapter you'd need is the part # 853-7489 that you referenced. If you were missing the screw that holds it on you'd also need the part # 853-5787-02 that you referenced as well.
