With solution number one, why am I limited to certain size pioneer platforms? I currently have access to Pioneer Platforms 42100 and 52100B Will they work with the rhino rack vortex cross bars?

You have two options;

The first option is to install the Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System for Retrax XR Series Tonneau Covers - Black - 65" Long, part # RRVA165B and part # RRRLT600. The feet attach directly to the RetraxPrO XR Hard Tonneau Cover - Retractable - Aluminum - Matte Black - Accessory T-Slots, part # RTT-80852. The Vortex Aero crossbars will attach to the the legs. With this fit you will be limited to Rhino-Rack Universal Pioneer Platform Rack for Crossbars - Aluminum - 48" Long x 38" Wide, part # RR4211BF, and the Rhino-Rack Universal Pioneer Platform Rack for Crossbars - Aluminum - 58" Long x 47" Wide, part # RR42115BF. Unfortunately, these are the smallest Pioneer Platforms.

The second option is to mount a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform directly to your RetraxPrO XR Hard Tonneau Cover - Retractable - Aluminum - Matte Black - Accessory T-Slots, part # RTT-80852. You will be limited to Pioneer Platform models that begin with the numbers 52. Rhino Rack does not test these types of fits, so if you attach a Pioneer Platform directly to your RetraxPrO XR tonneau cover you will void the warranty. For example, the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Roof Tray - Aluminum - 84" Long x 56" Wide, part # RR75TB, will work. (It is Rhino Rack part number 52104F.) This platform will attach to the Rhino-Rack Quick Mount Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars - RTC and RT Roof Rack Track.

Rhino Rack has only engineered two Pioneer Platforms to attach to the Vortex Aero Crossbars, meaning they have tested the fit of those two platforms to the RetraxPrP XR tonneau cover. The two platforms that have been tested are the # RR42114BF and the # RR42115BF and they were designed to attach directly to crossbars, something that none of the other pioner platforms do out of the box. If you were to attach another size Pioneer Platform to your tonneau cover it would be considered a custom fit by Rhino Rack and custom fits are not covered under warranty.
