1983 Rice Horse Trailer Recommendations For a Bent Torsion Axle
Updated 05/11/2021 | Published 05/09/2021 >
Question:
I too have a 1980s Rice horse trailer like the previous person who was asking about a hub however, my problem is that the one axle is bent. Ive been told that it shouldnt be bent back for stability reasons. Due to the cable-type braking system and its torsion bar they tell me the axle tube is still arched, the person I took it to for repair is unable to find offer me a cost-effective solution. Its in very good shape for its age, and Id like to keep it, if possible. Any solutions you could offer? Thank you in advance.

My recommendation would be to update all the axle components on your 1983 Rice Horse Trailer. Once an axle is bent there really is no repairing the axle and things will only tend to get worse. I haven't been able to find any information on your trailer as it would appear they are rare.
The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # A35RS545E is a great option to use when upgrading from a torsion axle suspension. With its design you will no longer have an axle tube that runs across the frame and the suspension is progressive so it will work well when empty or loaded. This system comes complete with an updated electric drum braking system and current bearings and seals. That will make replacement parts much easier to come by when you need them. This is a replacement for a 3,500lb weight rating and wheels that have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. Please let me know any information on your specific trailer for weight capacities and wheel dimensions and I can help you find the correct system if the one I gave does not meet your specifications.
