What is the dimensions on the axle tube end of the spindle? Will it slide in the tube snug or will it have to be modified prior to welding?

The #42 E-Z Lube 4" Drop Spindle w/ Flange for 5.2K to 7K Trailer Axles - 3" Diameter # TRU39FR you were looking at is designed to fit snugly into a # 42 axle, and the portion of the spindle that goes into the axle measures 2.45" so as long as that matches your axle this will not require any modification to your axle tube.
