First, be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on towing with your vehicle. There are a few components needed to tow a trailer staring with the trailer hitch. First, there are Class II and Class III hitches available for your 2006 Saturn Vue. I recommend a Class III trailer hitch, # 13591, because it has a higher capacity and the 2 inch receiver is compatible with more accessories. Basically, with a Class III hitch you have more options.

Next you will need a ball mount. The recommended ball mount is # AMSC2 and you can use pin and clip # PC3. Next you will need a properly sized ball for the trailer coupler. Coupler technology has not really changed too much over the years so it is probably very similar to the way you remember it. The trailer coupler will fit over the ball then you close the coupler around the ball to secure it.

The trailer coupler will take 1 of 3 possible ball sizes and the size it does take will be listed on the coupler. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260. For a 2 inch ball use # 19247.

You will also need trailer wiring installed on the vehicle to connect to the trailer. You can use harness # 118418. In plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring.

If the trailer does not have safety chains you will need to add some. The chains should be criss-crossed beneath the trailer tongue and attached to the safety chain loops on the hitch. Should the coupler come off the ball for any reason, the safety chains will prevent a run away trailer and catch the tongue and keep it from dragging on the ground.
