Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Trailer with 490-lbs Dry Tongue Weight but 6995-lbs GVWR
Updated 03/31/2021 | Published 03/30/2021 >
Question:
Hello, Is this the correct hitch to use for a 2002 Silverado 2500 HD to pull a Grand Design imagine xls 22MLE? travel trailer specs: UWR = 5176 Hitch weight = 490 GWWR = 6995 I see that the dry weight of the trailer will have a tongue weight of 490# which is below what this hitch is rated at, but when I have everything loaded I would expect the tongue weight would exceed 600#. Will it cause a problem if the tongue weight is not in the recommendation of the hitch? I did not purchase this travel trailer so do not know my actual tongue weight. Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
A properly loaded travel trailer will have 10-15% of its' total weight on the tongue, so theoretically you should be just fine using the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET when the trailer is loaded. When the trailer is unloaded you may get a bit rougher ride, but I would imagine the times that you'll be towing without cargo will be few and far between-maybe just your initial trip home from the dealer. I don't see any issues with you going with this hitch and it's going to be the best fit for you all things considered.
I've linked a short review video of this system for you to check out, if you haven't already.
