Question:
Dexter trailer axle 205451-EZ-72-10. It looks like the same one I need, but the tubing outer diameter is 1-3/4 and mine is 2. Would this still be the one I could use ?

It is possible that the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 72" Long - 2,200 lbs # 20545I-EZ-72-10 you mentioned will still work on your trailer even though it has a 1-3/4" axle diameter, but you will need to know the hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center measurement of your current axle to confirm this.
The # 20545I-EZ-72-10 you mentioned has a hub face to hub face measurement of 72" and a spring center to spring center measurement of 58" as shown in the included diagram. If this matches you current axle this would be a great replacement option.
Another option is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/Brake Flange - Regular Tires - 2,200 lbs # ASR1THDS01 which will bolt to the frame of your trailer and replace your current leaf spring suspension with a built in progressive rate main spring that does a great job of absorbing road shock and offers a much smoother ride than leaf springs. Since this option bolts directly to the frame of your trailer you will not need to worry about the length of your current axle.
For compatible hubs you would need the 5 on 4-1/2" # AKIHUB-545-35-K.
I included videos for the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
