That is a great question, the answer is dependent on the power draw of this fan relative to available energy from vehicles power source. If you are operating off only the crank/start battery that will be a relatively short period of time before there is not enough energy to restart your vehicles engine. The MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-06401K draws up to 5 amps, dependent on what speed you have the 4 speed fan set to. This MaxxFan product line is one of the best on the market for RV application, if not used when the RV is connected to shore power it is operated off a dedicated battery bank not the start battery of a motor vehicle.
Whatever you install this in I suggest you make arrangements for a separate power source to operate it off of and not your start battery. If in a camper van for example you may want to install an additional battery and charge that battery off of solar or actually connect to the existing charging system, ensure your alternator can handle this or replace alternator with larger unit to compensate. I suggest the use Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator - Dual Sensing - 12 Volt - 100 Amp, # 331-SBI12D. Connect this isolator in-line with 2 batteries - 1 that is charged by your alternator and another that connects to an outside source - and it will transfer power in either direction to keep both batteries charged. Shuts off if battery drops to 12.7V.
