Question:

How do I go about tearing down the brakes on my trailer with 10000 lb axles. I need to check them and be able to adjust them when finished.

I have included 3 videos that will help you. One specifically is on installing electric brakes. The trailer in that video did not start with brakes so it will be a little different. However it will still show you how to remove the hub and adjusting the brakes. I have all included a video just on installing a hub. And finally I have included a video on bearings that should be very helpful.

Some tips that I will add is to make sure that you clean off all of the old grease and use new grease like # L54FR as an example. Not all greases are compatible with each other so I have also included a link to our FAQ on grease compatibility. Make sure not to get any grease on the magnets or pads.

When adjusting brakes there is a special tool that you may be able to find but you can usually do it with a flat head screwdriver.

When looking at the armature surface (where the magnet touches the hub during a braking event) if it is warped or discolored you will need to replace it.
