Can I Exchange my A-frame Trailer Jack for a Side Mount Jack so Tailgate Can Be Lowered?
Updated 02/03/2021 | Published 01/30/2021 >
Question:
I’m wanting to remove my A frame jack because I can lower my tailgate with the trailer attached. It’s welded close to the coupler and the trailer frame is L shaped steel and is dual axle. I like the pipe/tube mount swivel bulldog and thinking the 15” /5k is more than enough so that it will reach my 2019 GMC AT4 with 3.25 hitch. Thoughts/recommendations?

I can certainly understand how you would like to lower your truck tailgate while hitched to a trailer. Yes, you can switch from an A-frame jack to the Bulldog # BD178203 side mounted swivel jack. You will need to weld on the pipe mount of course.
With your current jack, adjust the jack height until the trailer is level, then measure from the top of the coupler to the ground. From that measurement add 4" and that is the height you need. If 15" is long enough, then the BD178203 is good enough. If you need more height you should consider the Pro Series # PS1400800383 with nearly 29" of lift. I have attached an article discussing this.
